Sons of Algiers is a collection of short stories that take place in the non-fictive town of Algiers. The stories comprise a romantic depiction of Algerian middle class life in and around Algiers. The tales were written during the hirak when Algerian nationalism was at its peak, and a search for national identity and purpose was raging. At a crossroad of converging ideas and influences. They center on the author’s idea of an epiphany, a moment where a character experiences a life-changing self-understanding or illumination, placing Algiers as the heart of this vaudevillian stageplay. This is how it always ends, with death. But first there was life hidden beneath the chitter and chatter of the town. The voice of the ville that heals the ills, strengthen the will and calls it towards oneness in one town
